Rabee Yassin Reveals Why Liverpool Rejected Him Before Salah and His Exciting Journey to the World Cup
Rabee Yassin confirms receiving an offer from Liverpool before Salah and his return to Egypt to compete in the World Cup.
Rabee Yassin, former star of Al Ahly and the Egyptian national team, revealed for the first time the details of receiving a professional offer from English club Liverpool, before Mohamed Salah became the Reds’ main star.
Official Liverpool Offer
Yassin said in a radio interview: "I received an official offer from Liverpool, and the intermediary was Taha Ismail, who contacted Al Ahly’s management. Then Mustafa Abdo, the team captain at the time, informed me that Liverpool had specifically requested me by name."
Choosing Between Qatar and the Egyptian National Team
He added: "At that time, the media didn’t cover such matters. I left playing in Qatar for the sake of the Egyptian national team. There was a Qatari sheikh interested in signing me, and Al Ahly agreed to my departure. I played in Qatar for four months and succeeded in shining there, but I preferred to return to my country."
Loyalty to the Homeland Comes First
Rabee Yassin concluded: "Despite many opportunities, I returned to Egypt to prepare for the 1990 World Cup because the national team needed me. I chose to serve my country over any financial or professional offer. I don’t trade my feelings or use them for marketing; I believe in loyalty and belonging."
