The Italian Serie A authorities have fined Juventus €10,000 following the behavior of a section of the club’s supporters during the minute of silence held in memory of Italian football legend Sandro Mazzola.
The incident occurred before Juventus’ match against Atalanta in the fifth round of the Italian league, after some supporters failed to observe the minute of silence requested by the Italian Football Federation.
📢 Italian Federation Explains the Punishment
The Italian Football Federation said in a statement: “Juventus have been fined €10,000 after a small number of supporters in the southern stand, on the first tier, showed clear disrespect during the minute of silence decided by the Italian Football Federation.”
The federation also explained that the punishment was reduced because of “the prompt official position taken by the club regarding this regrettable behavior, as well as the disapproval expressed by the rest of the supporters present at the stadium.”
🟥 Juventus Faced the Possibility of a Heavier Punishment
Juventus had initially faced the possibility of a much stronger sanction, with the regulations allowing for a fine of up to €50,000 or even the possibility of playing a match behind closed doors.
However, the club’s immediate response and public condemnation of the incident contributed, according to the Italian federation, to the reduction of the punishment.

All matches in the fifth round of Serie A featured a minute of silence in honor of Sandro Mazzola, the former Inter Milan and Italy star who died on Saturday at the age of 83.

Before Juventus’ match against Atalanta at the Allianz Stadium, a section of the home supporters turned their backs toward the pitch and chanted during the minute of silence.
The behavior came against the backdrop of the historic rivalry between Juventus supporters and Inter Milan, the club where Mazzola spent his entire playing career.

Before the match ended, Juventus issued a statement condemning the behavior of the supporters involved and stressing that sporting rivalry cannot justify disrespect during a minute of silence.
The club said: “No rivalry can justify disrespect during a minute of silence. Honoring the memory of those who have passed away and coming together to remember them during moments of tribute is a shared responsibility that goes beyond affiliations and colors.”
