Egypt’s Ambassador in Chile Checks on Cycling Team and Visits Ibtisam Zayed After Her Injury
Egypt’s ambassador in Chile, Maher El-Mehdi, visited the national cycling team to ensure the well-being of athlete Ibtisam Zayed after a severe injury at the ongoing Track Cycling World Championship, where over 70 countries are participating.

Ambassador Maher El-Mehdi personally checked on the condition of all members of Egypt’s cycling delegation, paying special attention to Ibtisam Zayed, who was injured during the early rounds of the championship. For safety reasons, the coaching staff decided not to allow her to continue competing, following medical advice to rest for a week before gradually returning to training.
🏥 The Incident
Ibtisam Zayed fell heavily on the track during her race, causing concern in the arena. She was immediately transported to the hospital by ambulance and underwent urgent surgical intervention after a full medical assessment.

Mohamed Ibrahim, head coach of Egypt’s cycling team, confirmed that the morale of the delegation remains high. He praised the support of Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Ambassador Maher El-Mehdi, and the Egyptian Cycling Federation president, Ayman Ali Hassan, who closely monitors the team’s progress.
The coaching staff is focused on tomorrow’s finals, where Mahmoud Baher will compete in the elimination race and Shahd Said will take part in the keirin final, representing Egypt with determination.

Back in Cairo, Federation President Ayman Ali Hassan is closely monitoring Ibtisam Zayed’s recovery, wishing her a speedy return to the sport. He also encouraged the other athletes to continue performing strongly as Egypt’s sole representatives from Africa in the championship.
