As part of a strategic effort to revolutionize Zamalek SC’s media content, sources within the club have revealed that the board had been working on a comprehensive plan to revamp the official club channel. A central feature of this plan was a high-profile program to be hosted by club legend and iconic captain Mahmoud Abdel Razek “Shikabala” following his expected retirement.

The initiative wasn’t random; it formed part of an integrated media project aimed at capitalizing on Shikabala’s immense popularity among Zamalek fans. The goal was to harness his storied history and symbolic status to deliver strong, impactful content that would restore the channel’s lost luster and give it a fresh boost in viewership and influence.

According to insiders, the planned program was not merely a symbolic appearance. It was conceived as a full-fledged media project featuring analytical segments focused on Zamalek matches, interviews and live interactions with football stars, and serving as a major promotional face for the channel during what was envisioned as a pivotal season both on and off the pitch.

However, the plan was unexpectedly derailed when Shikabala recently appeared as a guest on a satellite TV network and subsequently signed an official contract to join their media team after retirement. This move disrupted the club's media strategy, leading to the shelving of the entire project—especially since the new contract reportedly includes clauses preventing Shikabala from producing or presenting exclusive content for Zamalek’s channel.
Sources explained that the club’s media team had pinned high hopes on this project as a true starting point for a new phase—one that could regain audience trust following a period of declining content quality and media presence. Shikabala’s external commitment, however, brought the initiative back to square one.

Despite this sudden setback, Zamalek’s management has not abandoned the development project altogether. The board has already begun exploring alternative approaches to restructure the channel, including the potential recruitment of influential figures from within the club or respected media personalities who command fan trust. The club maintains that the media project is still alive, albeit with a revised vision.

These developments reflect a clear intent from Zamalek’s leadership to reform its media apparatus and present the club’s channel in a way that reflects its size and heritage. Fans remain hopeful for a return to high-quality, professional content that truly represents the club’s identity and strengthens its bond with the supporters.
