Mahmoud Abdel-Razek "Shikabala", the captain of Zamalek and one of the most iconic figures in Egyptian football, has officially announced his retirement from football, marking the end of a long and passionate career that spanned over two decades—most of which was dedicated to wearing the white jersey of Zamalek.

Shikabala, 37, shared an emotional farewell message with Zamalek fans via his official Facebook page, writing:
"Goodbye, South Curve… One journey ends, and another begins from the heart of the stands."
This heartfelt statement reflected his deep emotional bond with the fans who supported him throughout his career and viewed him as a timeless legend of the club.

In his final season with the team, Shikabala's on-field presence was limited due to recurring injuries. He appeared in only 17 matches, scoring once and assisting twice. Despite this, his leadership and motivational presence remained strong in the locker room, constantly encouraging his teammates through challenging moments.
Shikabala retires as one of the most decorated players in Zamalek’s history, having won 18 titles across his career. These include the Egyptian Premier League, Egypt Cup, Egyptian Super Cup, CAF Confederation Cup, and CAF Super Cup—cementing his legacy as one of the club’s all-time greats.

Reports indicate that Zamalek’s management has already begun planning a farewell match worthy of his illustrious career. It’s expected that a prominent international club might be invited to participate in the tribute game, in recognition of Shikabala’s contributions and achievements.

Although stepping away from playing, Shikabala has not ruled out a future role at his beloved club. He hinted at continuing his journey off the pitch, stating at the end of his message:
"Zamalek is my home, and I will always serve it in any way I can."

With his retirement, Zamalek closes a chapter on one of the pillars of its golden generation. Yet his legacy will live on—in the hearts of fans, in the annals of Egyptian football, and as an enduring symbol of loyalty, passion, and inspiration for future generations.
