Palestinian striker Wissam Abu Ali has officially bid farewell to Al Ahly’s first team, after taking part in his final training session with the players excluded from the Tunisia camp. Following the session, he collected his belongings — a clear indication that his journey with the Red Castle has come to an end. His departure had become only a matter of time following a full agreement with his new club.
Al Ahly reached a final agreement with American side Columbus Crew regarding the player's transfer, after several days of intense negotiations. The club approved the offer, which included a base fee of $7.5 million, an additional $2 million in conditional bonuses, and a clause granting Al Ahly 15% of any future resale — a move reflecting the club's keenness to maximize the benefit of the deal.
The surprise came in the final hours when Columbus officials increased their financial offer, prompting Al Ahly to accept without hesitation, especially after the total value reached $9.5 million. The club considered it an "ideal" deal in terms of both timing and financial return, particularly as the player expressed his desire to embark on a new experience outside the African continent.
Since joining Al Ahly, Wissam Abu Ali proved himself quickly, adapting with ease and cementing his role as the team’s primary striker. He played 60 official matches across various competitions, scoring 38 goals and providing 10 assists — amassing 49 direct goal contributions and establishing himself as one of the club's standout players in recent times.
During his relatively short stint, he won five titles, including the CAF Champions League, two Egyptian Premier League titles, the Egypt Cup, the Egyptian Super Cup, and the Continental Tri-Cup — further enhancing his continental reputation.
In addition to team achievements, Wissam also claimed an extraordinary individual honor, securing the Egyptian Premier League top scorer title two seasons ago, despite playing only half the season. He netted 18 goals, outperforming all strikers who played the full campaign, highlighting his impact and rapid integration.
Despite fierce competition among Al Ahly’s attacking options, Wissam remained firmly in the technical staff’s plans, thanks to his discipline and consistent performances. Eventually, however, he felt that a move to Major League Soccer was the right challenge for the next stage of his career.
