Slot ignites the scene: Salah deserves the Ballon d'Or, Barcelona eyes Díaz, and Alonso receives a gift
Slot backs Salah to win the Ballon d'Or, comments on Barcelona's interest in Díaz, and jokes about a "gift" for Alonso.
Slot said during the press conference ahead of the Crystal Palace clash in the Premier League finale:
“I hope Salah wins the Ballon d’Or. He’s had outstanding seasons with Liverpool, and this season in particular has been special in terms of his numbers. With us winning the league title, it gives him a strong chance to win.”
He added:
“Despite the fierce competition, this season is the most suitable one for Salah to win the award. And if it doesn’t happen, I’m confident he’ll keep working hard to compete for it next season.”
Slot continued:
“It might be hard for Salah to improve individually, but his exceptional mentality drives him to always aim for more. As a team, we were competing for four titles and won the toughest one, but there’s still room for improvement.”
Commenting on statements by Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, regarding the Spanish club’s interest in signing Luis Díaz, Slot said:
“Every club has its own way of doing things. I don’t talk about players we haven’t signed, but I know Deco is a big admirer of Díaz — as am I. Similarly, I admire Lamine Yamal.”
The Dutch coach also referred to reports of Trent Alexander-Arnold potentially moving to Real Madrid, saying:
“If that happens, it could be the first gift I give to Xabi Alonso.”
Although news has circulated about Arnold's imminent move to the Spanish giants and Alonso’s expected appointment as head coach, Real Madrid has not yet made any official announcement regarding either deal.
