Sports critic Essam Salem has commented on the situation of Ramadan Sobhi, the Pyramids and Egypt international, following the continuation of his four-year suspension in a case involving an anti-doping rule violation.
The Swiss Federal Supreme Court rejected Ramadan Sobhi’s appeal against the suspension, leaving the four-year sanction imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in place. Speaking during an appearance with Mohamed Tarek Adaa on “El Match” on Sada El Balad, Salem said: “My heart goes out to Ramadan Sobhi. It is a tough blow, a back-breaking blow. Egypt has lost a great talent.”
The sports critic believes the punishment goes beyond simply missing matches, as the player will be away from competitive football and football-related activity for an extended period.

He said: “Ramadan Sobhi is currently suspended during the best period of a player’s age, and he will return from the suspension at the age of 32, at the beginning of the decline phase of a player.”
The current sanction remains in effect following the Swiss court’s decision, meaning Sobhi remains suspended from football activity until 2029 under the published terms of the punishment.

Essam Salem also recalled watching Ramadan Sobhi during the early stages of his career and said the player impressed him at a young age.
He said: “I watched Ramadan Sobhi in a youth friendly tournament in the UAE when he was 17, and he was a wonderful player. I expected him to have a great future in football.”
The comments reflect the expectations that surrounded Sobhi from an early stage of his career before his current suspension brought his playing career to a halt.
