🔴 Cardoso Responds to Reports of Al Ahly Talks
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has addressed reports that Al Ahly had previously considered negotiating with him to become the club’s head coach.
The reports emerged before Al Ahly eventually appointed Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta, bringing renewed attention to Cardoso’s position and his stance toward other clubs.
📋 Sundowns Coach: I Am Committed to My Contract
Speaking to South African channel “Modern MT,” Miguel Cardoso said he is under contract with Sundowns for two seasons and prefers to respect his current agreement rather than negotiate with other clubs while his contract remains active.
The Portuguese coach explained that he has never been accustomed to negotiating with another club while still under contract, stressing that he follows the same principle regardless of the nature of potential offers.
His comments come amid reports that Al Ahly had shown interest in him before eventually choosing Hussein Ammouta as their head coach.
⚽ Al Ahly Resume Training After International Break
Meanwhile, Al Ahly’s first-team football squad resumed training on Monday evening at El Tetsh Stadium after the players’ rest period during the international break.
The coaching staff have decided to increase the training workload during the current period, with the squad scheduled to train twice a day, in the morning and evening, starting Tuesday for one week.
Players recovering from injuries are also continuing their rehabilitation programs alongside team training as they work toward returning to full group participation.
🔥 Al Ahly Schedule Two Friendlies
Al Ahly’s coaching staff have also arranged two friendly matches during the current break to improve the squad’s physical and technical readiness before competitive football resumes.
The team will face Libyan side Al Hilal on September 30 before taking on Misr Elmaqasah on October 3 as part of the preparation program.
The two matches will provide the coaching staff with opportunities to evaluate the players and give playing time to different members of the squad.
🏆 Focus Turns to Zamalek Derby
Al Ahly are also preparing for the highly anticipated derby against Zamalek on October 11 at Cairo International Stadium in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League.
The coaching staff will look to make the most of the international break to ensure the squad reaches the derby in strong physical and technical condition.

Al Ahly’s most recent league match ended with a 2-0 victory over Abu Qir Fertilizers in the fifth round of the competition.
Ahmed Sayed Zizo and Hussein El Shahat scored the goals as Al Ahly secured three points before the international break and then turned their attention toward preparations for the upcoming fixtures, particularly the derby against Zamalek.
