The Desert Warriors shine… Algeria secures qualification with a perfect record against Equatorial Guinea
The Desert Warriors secured full points after a 3-1 win over Equatorial Guinea in the final group stage match, topping Group E and advancing to the knockout stage.
Algeria concluded their group stage campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a convincing 3-1 victory against Equatorial Guinea at Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium.
The first goal came from defender Zinedine Belaid in the 19th minute, followed by a strike from Farès Chaïbi in the 25th minute after a brilliant assist from Ibrahim Mazza. Mazza then completed Algeria’s hat-trick in the 32nd minute, ending the first half with a commanding 3-0 lead.
The second half saw a calmer pace after Algeria had secured the win, with Equatorial Guinea’s captain Emilio Ensowi scoring a consolation goal in the 50th minute.
With this victory, Algeria topped Group E with 9 points, Burkina Faso qualified second, Sudan finished third, and Equatorial Guinea were eliminated from the tournament.
Al-Ittihad Alexandria secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Zamalek in the fourth round of the Egyptian League Cup, moving up the group standings.
Sudanese midfielder Amir Abdullah impressed in his first continental appearance, proving that emerging talents can make a significant impact.
Zamalek will rely solely on youth players for their match against Al-Ittihad, rejecting requests to include first-team goalkeepers Awad or El-Mehdi.
