Ahmed Gamal, a second-year student at the Faculty of Physical Education for Boys, Helwan University, has been crowned with the gold medal at the U20 World Weightlifting Championship held in Peru in 2025. This remarkable achievement marks the emergence of a new global champion from the university, raising Egypt’s flag high on the international stage.
The “Dormant Volcano” Strikes Gold for Egypt and Helwan University

Known by the nickname “The Dormant Volcano,” Ahmed Gamal achieved a stunning victory in the under-96 kg weight category, securing first place overall with a combined total of 366 kg. He claimed the silver medal in the snatch with a lift of 166 kg and the gold medal in the clean and jerk with 200 kg. These results placed him at the top of the global youth rankings and confirmed his status as a rising star on the international scene.
