"Wissam Abu Ali Leaves Al Ahly for Columbus Crew in $7.5 Million Deal, Issues Apology to Fans"
Wissam Abu Ali, striker for Al Ahly’s first football team, is set to depart Cairo International Airport within hours, heading to the United States. The move comes as part of his impending transfer to Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew, following a finalized agreement between both clubs.
According to sources inside the Red Castle, Al Ahly will receive $7.5 million upfront upon the player's successful completion of his medical examination. The deal also includes an additional $2 million in performance-related bonuses, tied to match appearances and goal-scoring during the first two seasons. Furthermore, Al Ahly will retain 15% of any future resale fee should Columbus transfer the player elsewhere.
Ahead of his departure, Abu Ali issued a heartfelt apology to Al Ahly fans for his recent absence from training, explaining that he had been facing family-related pressures. He stated:
“I apologize to anyone who was upset with me. I was going through difficult family circumstances. I have great respect for Al Ahly, its fans, and the board of directors led by Captain Mahmoud El Khatib.”
The Palestinian striker added:
“Al Ahly elevated my career and gave me everything. I spent the most beautiful one and a half years of my career here. The support from the fans was incredible — I even bought a house in Cairo because I felt such a strong sense of belonging.”
He continued:
“I thank Al Ahly for everything during my time here — I won titles, scored goals, and was part of a family-like environment. I again apologize to the club president, the management, the fans, and my teammates if anything I did caused offense.”
Abu Ali also emphasized the role Al Ahly played in helping him earn a place with the Palestine national team, a milestone he greatly values:
“I’m proud to represent Palestine, and Al Ahly played a big role in making that happen. I’ll always be grateful to the fans for their unwavering support — it means the world to me.”
He concluded by saying he’s unsure what the future holds, but he remains thankful for his time at the club and wishes Al Ahly continued success in the coming period.
