Al Ahly is on the verge of finalizing the departure of Palestinian striker Wissam Abou Ali, with an official announcement expected soon regarding his transfer to Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew during the current summer transfer window. This move brings an end to one of the club’s most debated issues in recent weeks.

According to sources within the club, the player received a lucrative offer from the American side. Although Al Ahly initially expressed a desire to keep him, Abou Ali's strong inclination to experience a new challenge outside of Africa became the deciding factor — especially after tensions rose due to his repeated absence from training.

The striker did not participate in the team’s recent training camp in Tunisia and refused to undergo medical tests prior to travel, prompting the technical staff to exclude him and impose financial penalties. These actions paved the way for his likely departure and brought all parties closer to a mutual agreement.

To clarify the situation and ease fan outrage, Abou Ali released a video message through the club’s media center, in which he issued a formal apology to Al Ahly’s management, his teammates, and supporters. He stated:
“A lot has been said recently, and I wanted to set the record straight.”
He continued:
“I sincerely apologize to the club president, to our great fans, and to my teammates for any behavior that was out of line. I wasn’t in the best mental state; I was under significant family and personal pressure and didn’t handle things the right way. I regret my actions.”

Abou Ali reaffirmed his respect for the club and its fans, saying:
“I spent the best season and a half of my life at Al Ahly. It felt like my second home. The fans’ support meant the world to me — I’ll never forget it. I hope you can forgive me if I’ve disappointed you in any way.”

He also denied any involvement with negative statements or posts made about the club in recent weeks, clarifying:
“I have no connection to any offensive remarks directed at the club, its fans, or its officials. I deeply respect Al Ahly and trust that they’ll understand my situation.”

Abou Ali concluded his message by saying:
“Whether the transfer happens or not, that’s fate. I’m grateful to Al Ahly for the opportunity to represent such a historic club — it will always remain the greatest chapter of my career.”
