The curtain has fallen on the Planning Committee phase at Zamalek SC, which played a pivotal role over recent months in several strategic football-related files, as part of a broader plan to restructure the team and define the next phase.

The end of the committee’s work was officially announced by its three members—Hazem Emam, Ahmed Hossam "Mido," and Amr El-Ganainy—coinciding with the appointment of John Edward as the club’s new Sporting Director, signaling the start of a new chapter in football management at the White Castle.

It’s worth noting that while the committee was officially announced on February 14, 2025, Amr El-Ganainy revealed that they had already been actively performing their duties for over seven months before the official announcement, indicating significant behind-the-scenes coordination and groundwork.
During its tenure, the committee handled a wide array of responsibilities that directly influenced the football team’s trajectory. This included signing players like Morocco’s Salah Mossadeq and Tunisia’s Ahmed Al-Jifali, as well as overseeing major coaching changes—such as the departure of Christian Gross, the short-lived tenure of José Peseiro, and the temporary appointment of Ayman Al-Ramadi until the season's end.

The committee was also behind the contract renewals of key players like Omar Gaber and Mahmoud Al-Wensh and played a decisive role in halting the appointment of Amr Wahby as head of recruitment, as part of the administrative restructuring.

One of the committee’s most significant accomplishments was designing a comprehensive roadmap for the football department, which included evaluating technical and managerial needs, ultimately recommending the hiring of a visionary sporting director to stabilize and enhance team performance.

Despite notable achievements—including winning the Egypt Cup against Pyramids FC—some issues remained unresolved upon the committee’s departure. These included the failure to renew Mohamed El-Sayed’s contract and not upgrading the deal of promising defender Hossam Abdel-Meguid, both of which now pose challenges for the new management.

The committee is also credited with initiating early winter transfer deals, even before their official appointment, in an effort to reinforce the squad amid difficult club circumstances at the time.

The Planning Committee’s exit aligns with broader administrative and technical changes at Zamalek ahead of the new season. The coming phase is expected to be crucial in building upon the foundation laid by the committee and achieving the desired sporting and organizational stability for the club’s first football team.
