Initially studied at the Faculty of Commerce, then transferred to the Faculty of Fine Arts, graduating in 1979.

Discovered by composer Baligh Hamdi, who introduced him to the audience with the song "Ala Ad Ma Habena" in 1977, marking his big break.

Along with his brother Ahmed El Haggar, he joined the Takht Arabi band to revive traditional Arabic music.
