Shoukry Sarhan was born on March 13, 1925, in El-Ghar village in Sharqia Governorate. He was the brother of actors Salah and Sami Sarhan. He is considered one of the iconic figures of Egyptian and Arab cinema in the 20th century.

 

He began his film career in 1949 with the film Lahlabo, but his major breakthrough came with Son of the Nile (1951), directed by Youssef Chahine. His acting career continued with leading roles in famous films such as:

He was dubbed "the heartthrob of the screen" and was awarded the State Medal by President Gamal Abdel Nasser. He received numerous awards in recognition of his long artistic career.

 

He retired from acting in his later years and dedicated his time to reading the Quran, earning him the title "The Lover of the Quran."
