Botros Ghali was accused in two "antiquities smuggling" cases. In the first case, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison with a 5 million Egyptian pounds fine, and the smuggled antiquities were confiscated for the benefit of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
In the second case, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison and a 1 million Egyptian pounds fine, with the antiquities being confiscated for the benefit of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
He was also accused of being involved in smuggling a diplomatic container from Italy that contained 21,855 antiquities from various periods of Egyptian civilization via the Alexandria port.
