Biography

Born in Fum El Khalig, Old Cairo, Egypt, in 1918 to a wealthy family. His father died when he was ten years old.

 

Interested in the arts since childhood and joined the school theater team, regularly attending theatrical performances.

 

Graduated from the School of Arts and Crafts (now Applied Arts), worked as a teacher in the engineering faculty workshops for 12 years, supervising sports activities, being a distinguished athlete and weightlifting champion.

 

Obtained a Bachelor of Dramatic Arts from the Higher Institute of Acting in 1949 (second graduating class).

 

Left engineering and worked as a drama teacher at the Ministry of Education, pioneering theatrical education.

 

Joined the Modern Theatre Troupe in 1950, then Ismail Yassin’s troupe in 1954, and the Rihani troupe in 1957, where he stayed for 10 years.

 

Participated in famous plays such as “Except Five”, “Hassan, Marcus, and Cohen”.

 

Starred in about 200 films over 30 years, playing roles ranging from pasha, butcher, strict father, kind husband, coachman, to khedive.

 

When Egyptian TV began in 1960, he acted in series like “The Whirlpool”, “The Unknown”, “The Good Ten”.

 

His last TV work was the series “The Flying Boy’s Dreams” with Adel Imam.

 

Awarded the State Appreciation Award by President Sadat.

Married at age 29 to Mrs. Amal, with four children:

Death

Passed away at age 60 due to a heart attack after returning from rehearsals for a new work, leaving a distinct mark in Egyptian arts.
