On Her Death Anniversary.. Maha Sabry and the Tragic Trust in Charlatans
On the anniversary of her passing, the story of Maha Sabry resurfaces — a romantic voice of Egypt’s golden age whose life ended tragically after trusting charlatans, leaving behind a powerful lesson.
Today marks the anniversary of the death of Maha Sabry, one of the most distinctive romantic voices of Egypt’s golden age 🎶🕊️. Despite her artistic success and lasting legacy, her life came to a tragic end after placing her trust in false healers.
Born on May 22, 1932, Maha Sabry’s real name was Zakia Fawzy Mahmoud. Her artistic journey began when actor Abdel Salam El Nabulsi chose her stage name, and producer Mary Queeny introduced her to cinema in 1959 🎬✨.
She starred in many notable films, including Ismail Yassin in Prison, Love and Deprivation, Sweet but a Liar, A Love Story, Cairo at Night, El Sokkaria, and Bayn El Qasrayn, where her role as “Habibet El Sayed” became unforgettable 💔🎭.
In 1963, she achieved massive success with her iconic song “Ma Tzaw’eeny Ya Mama”, featured in the film Endless Joy, and later collaborated with singer Maher El Attar on the radio program Spring Rains 🎤✨.
Her personal life was filled with complex relationships and difficult choices, eventually leading to isolation and vulnerability. In her final years, she fell victim to charlatans who convinced her to consume harmful substances known as “Red Mercury”, causing severe nerve and liver damage ⚠️☠️.
A late visit to Sheikh Mohamed Metwally El Shaarawy resulted in a strong warning against such practices, but it came too late. Maha Sabry entered a hepatic coma in early 1988 and passed away in 1989, leaving behind a beautiful artistic legacy and a heartbreaking lesson 💔🕊️.
