Sayed Mahmoud, the media advisor to the Federation of the Three Artistic Syndicates, revealed new details regarding the investigation that was supposed to be opened against actor Mohamed Ramadan, following the controversy surrounding his outfit during his recent performance at the Coachella Festival in the United States.

He clarified that the federation did not launch any official investigation into Ramadan, due to the absence of any formal complaint filed against him by a professional or governmental body. He emphasized that the syndicates’ regulations do not permit an investigation to be opened without an official report or complaint.

Sayed Mahmoud added that Mohamed Ramadan issued an apology to the public in his own way, which was considered sufficient to close the case and avoid escalating the situation. He noted that what occurred was merely a wave of controversy on social media, but was not treated as a violation requiring technical or disciplinary action.

He further explained that the artistic syndicates do not hold artists accountable for their personal opinions or artistic choices, as long as no laws are violated and no official complaints are filed. He pointed out that the public was the ultimate judge in this crisis, as many expressed their displeasure with Ramadan’s appearance, deeming it offensive to the image of the Egyptian artist.

He continued that in a video posted on his official Instagram account, Ramadan provided a direct clarification and apology, stating that he had not worn women’s clothing either in real life or in acting, and affirmed his full respect for any artist who chooses to take on such roles. However, he reiterated his long-standing stance since the beginning of his career. This, some saw as a position that respects freedom of opinion and choice while still offering an apology.

It is worth noting that Ramadan’s outfit at his American concert sparked wide criticism on social media, with some considering it inappropriate and a departure from public taste and Egyptian cultural norms. Despite the lack of an official complaint, the uproar was enough to prompt the federation to clarify its stance and assert that the situation did not warrant formal escalation.

The media advisor stressed that the artistic syndicates respect artists’ freedom of expression and creativity, but are equally committed to preserving the overall image of Egyptian art, both domestically and internationally. He added that there is a fine line between creative freedom and the social responsibility borne by the artist.

He also affirmed that Mohamed Ramadan is a talented artist with a large fan base, but needs to reconsider some of his public appearance choices, especially in international events that are broadcast globally and reflect on Egyptian art. Sayed Mahmoud concluded by stating that the syndicates closely monitor public reactions and always strive to balance artistic freedom with the preservation of Egyptian cultural identity.
