The study, published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, found that combining kiwi with rye bread and mineral water produced better digestive outcomes than relying on fiber intake alone.

Dr. Irene Dimidi, the study’s lead author, explained that evidence for fiber alone as a treatment for constipation is limited, emphasizing that this research opens new dietary possibilities that could greatly improve patients’ quality of life.

Why Kiwi?
Kiwi contains actinidin, a natural enzyme that enhances protein breakdown and speeds up digestion, alongside vitamin E and antioxidants that help reduce bloating and support intestinal health.
According to nutrition expert Jason Heiselman, consuming kiwi with healthy fats — like nuts or full-fat dairy — boosts nutrient absorption. He also recommends using kiwi creatively in savory dishes such as sauces, pickles, and salads.
