A recent study has revealed a promising medical development in the treatment of fibromyalgia, showing that the use of a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) device can significantly reduce pain and improve mobility, with benefits lasting for several months.

The study found that combining the device with physical therapy led to noticeable improvements in movement-related pain, one of the most debilitating symptoms of fibromyalgia that severely affects patients’ daily quality of life.

The TENS device works by delivering mild electrical impulses through electrodes placed on the skin over painful areas. These impulses help modify the way pain signals are transmitted to the brain, thereby reducing the sensation of pain.

It also helps stimulate peripheral nerves and improve the body’s response to painful stimuli, making it a non-drug option suitable for patients who cannot tolerate medication side effects.

Results showed that patients using the device experienced a clear reduction in pain intensity, especially during physical activity, with improvements lasting up to six months in some cases.

Researchers noted that the device is particularly effective for movement-related pain, which often does not respond well to conventional treatments.

However, scientists emphasized that the device is not a cure for fibromyalgia but rather a supportive tool to manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
