Mohamed Ramadan Sentenced to Two Years Over “Number One Ya Ansas” Without License
The Giza Misdemeanor Court sentenced Egyptian star Mohamed Ramadan to two years in prison for releasing the song “Number One Ya Ansas” without official approval.
The Dokki Misdemeanor Court in Giza has sentenced Egyptian actor and singer Mohamed Ramadan to two years in prison, after he was convicted in case no. 9213/2025 for publishing the song “Number One Ya Ansas” on his YouTube channel without obtaining the necessary official permits from the Ministry of Culture.
Investigations revealed that the song was uploaded publicly without legal authorization, violating Egypt’s Intellectual Property Law. Following this, the authorities referred the case to court on charges of unauthorized broadcast of an audiovisual work.
According to official sources, the Ministry of Culture confirmed that the song was not approved by the Central Department of Censorship on Artistic Works prior to its release, prompting legal action.
Dr. Ahmed El-Gendy, Mohamed Ramadan’s lawyer, said that the case had been amicably settled and that the defense will submit documents proving reconciliation in the next hearing, scheduled for November 6, 2025.
He noted that the lawsuit will be dismissed once the court verifies reconciliation, emphasizing that the dispute arose from administrative oversight rather than intent to violate the law.
The song “Number One Ya Ansas” sparked major controversy online due to its provocative lyrics, which many interpreted as targeting rival artists. The incident has reignited debate about creative freedom and licensing regulations for online content in Egypt.
