The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, affiliated with the Ministry of Awqaf, concluded its awareness activities at Al-Sabah Mosque in Cairo’s Maadi district on Tuesday, in cooperation with the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Substance Abuse.

The activities aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs and promote effective ways to prevent addiction, particularly among children and young people.

Awareness Activities Held at Al-Sabah Mosque

The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Awqaf and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

It was supervised by Dr. Ahmed Nabawy, Secretary-General of the Council, and Dr. Amr Othman, Director of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction.

The event was also coordinated by Dr. Hoda Hamid, Director General of Publishing and Editing at the Council and the Ministry of Awqaf’s child affairs coordinator, along with Dr. Ibrahim Askar, Director General of Preventive Programs at the Fund, and Amira Ragab, Assistant Supervisor of the General Administration of Preventive Programs.

Awqaf Officials and Imams Attend the Event

The event was attended by Amira Ragab, Sheikh Mimi Gamal Ghanem, Director of the Basatin and New Maadi Administration, and Sheikh Hammad Hassan Abdel Wahab, Imam and Preacher of Al-Sabah Mosque.

Dr. Adel Mahmoud Ahmed, an Imam and preacher with the Basatin and Maadi Administration, and Dr. Mahmoud Hassan Mahmoud, a member of the Council’s Publishing and Editing Department, also attended.

Interactive Workshops for Children

The program included interactive workshops for children addressing the dangers of addiction, its negative effects on individuals and society, and ways to protect themselves from drug use.

The workshops were delivered by volunteers from the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Substance Abuse, including Kawthar Ehab, Hadeer Ahmed, and Menna Allah Ibrahim.

Early Awareness to Protect Young People

The activities highlighted the importance of early awareness as an essential tool for protecting children and young people from risky behaviors.

The workshops presented information in a simplified format designed to help children understand the dangers of drugs and the importance of prevention.

Addiction Treatment and Counseling Services

At the beginning of the event, Amira Ragab explained that the Fund provides a comprehensive range of treatment and prevention services, in addition to counseling and public awareness services concerning the risks of misuse of medications.

She emphasized that treatment services are provided free of charge and with complete confidentiality through the hotline 16023.

Participants emphasized the important role of mosques in raising awareness and correcting misconceptions related to drugs and addiction.

They also stressed the need for coordinated efforts among state institutions and civil society organizations to address the issue and protect children and young people from the dangers of substance abuse.
