With heavy rain and unstable weather conditions, many Muslims are asking whether it is permissible to miss congregational prayers at the mosque due to such circumstances.

According to Al-Azhar Global Center for Fatwa, Islamic law takes into account people’s hardships and allows certain concessions when attending the mosque becomes difficult or harmful.

While congregational prayer holds great virtue, the center clarified that severe rain, extreme cold, strong winds, and difficult walking conditions are all valid excuses that permit praying at home without sin.

This is supported by prophetic traditions where the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed the call to prayer to include “pray in your homes” during cold or rainy nights, emphasizing ease and mercy in worship.

Similarly, Dar Al-Ifta Egypt confirmed that individuals who find it difficult to reach the mosque due to heavy rain may pray at home, and it is preferable to perform the prayer in congregation with family members if possible.

They also noted that the reward remains complete for those who regularly attend congregational prayer but are prevented by valid excuses, as intentions are taken into account.

However, once the hardship is gone and conditions improve, Muslims are encouraged to return to the mosque and not miss the spiritual rewards of congregational worship.
