The False Messiah (Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal) is one of the greatest trials foretold by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Authentic hadith describe his appearance and characteristics so that believers can recognize and avoid his deception.

Who Is the Dajjal?

The Dajjal is a man who will appear near the end of time. Allah will allow him extraordinary abilities as a test for humanity, and many people will follow him except those with firm faith.

Physical Characteristics

According to authentic narrations:

  • Blind in the right eye.
  • The word "Kafir" (Disbeliever) will be written between his eyes.
  • Short in stature.
  • Thick-haired.
  • Bow-legged.

Where Will He Appear?

He will emerge from the East, specifically from the region of Khurasan, before spreading rapidly across the world.

How Long Will He Remain?

He will remain on earth for forty days:

  • One day like a year.
  • One day like a month.
  • One day like a week.
  • The remaining days will be like normal days.

His Trial

The Dajjal will perform extraordinary acts by Allah's permission as a test. He will appear to command rain and vegetation and will present what seems to be paradise and hell, though his paradise is actually torment and his hell is true salvation.

He will not be able to enter Makkah or Madinah because angels will guard both cities.

His End

Prophet Jesus (Isa) will descend near Damascus and pursue the Dajjal until he catches him at the Gate of Lod near Jerusalem, where he will kill him, bringing the greatest trial to an end.

Who is the Dajjal?
The False Messiah who will emerge before the Day of Judgment.

What are his main characteristics?
Blind in the right eye, "Kafir" written between his eyes, short, thick-haired, and bow-legged.

Where will he appear?
From the East, in the region of Khurasan.

Can he enter Makkah and Madinah?
No. Angels will guard both holy cities.

Who will kill the Dajjal?
Prophet Jesus (Isa), peace be upon him, at the Gate of Lod near Jerusalem.
