The creation of Jesus (peace be upon him) by the command of Allah “Be” raises many questions about the wisdom behind his creation, the purpose of the miracles granted to him, whether God’s teachings change with different eras, and the truth of the message and glad tidings brought by Jesus. Islam affirms that Jesus (peace be upon him) is a noble prophet and one of the greatest messengers of Allah. His miraculous birth and extraordinary signs were among Allah’s proofs of His power and evidence of the truthfulness of his mission.

What Is the Wisdom Behind Creating Jesus with the Word “Be”?

Allah created Jesus (peace be upon him) in a unique way compared to other human beings. He created him from a mother without a father, by His command and His word “Be.” Allah says: “Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, ‘Be,’ and he was.” The wisdom behind this creation is to demonstrate Allah’s absolute power. Allah is the One who created Adam without a father or mother, created Eve from Adam, created humans through parents, and created Jesus from a mother alone. All of this reflects the greatness and limitless power of the Creator.

What Was the Purpose of the Miracles of Jesus?

Allah granted Jesus (peace be upon him) several great miracles as evidence of his prophethood, including:

Bringing the Dead Back to Life by Allah’s Permission

Bringing the dead back to life was one of the greatest miracles given to Jesus. However, it was not through his own independent power, but by Allah’s permission, serving as a sign of the Creator’s ability and proof of Jesus’ truthfulness.

Healing the Sick and Medical Miracles

Allah enabled Jesus to heal those born blind and those suffering from leprosy. These were among the most difficult illnesses of that time, making them clear signs for his people and evidence of his prophethood.

Calling People to Worship Allah Alone

The miracles were not an end in themselves; rather, they were a means of proving the message and calling people to believe in the oneness of Allah and follow the truth.

Do God’s Teachings Change Over Time?

Islam teaches that Allah is perfectly Wise in His creation and legislation. Some rulings may differ between nations and prophets according to what suits the conditions and needs of people in each era. A later prophet may confirm some teachings brought by previous prophets while replacing others. This does not mean that truth changes; rather, it means that Allah legislates what is best for His servants. Jesus (peace be upon him) came with a law that agreed with much of the Torah while introducing new rulings and replacing some previous commandments.

Was There Anything in the Actions of Jesus That Diminishes His Status?

Muslims believe that Jesus (peace be upon him) was a noble messenger of Allah and that prophets are protected from major sins that would harm their status as messengers. Therefore, nothing that diminishes his honor is attributed to Jesus. He is regarded as Allah’s servant and messenger, chosen to deliver a great message to the Children of Israel.

What Is the Truth About the Glad Tidings Brought by Jesus?

Jesus (peace be upon him) brought guidance and glad tidings, and his mission was part of the chain of divine messages delivered by the prophets. Islam teaches that among the glad tidings brought by Jesus was the announcement of the coming of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the final messenger of Allah, as mentioned in the Qur’an.

Did Other Messengers Perform Miracles Showing the Existence of God?

Yes. Allah supported many of His messengers with miracles as evidence of their truthfulness. A miracle is an extraordinary event that Allah causes to occur through a prophet as support for his message and as proof for his people. Examples of prophets’ miracles include: The miracle of Moses (peace be upon him) with his staff and the splitting of the sea. The miracle of Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) with the she-camel. The miracle of Abraham (peace be upon him) when Allah made the fire cool and safe for him. The miracles of Jesus (peace be upon him), including healing the sick and bringing the dead back to life by Allah’s permission. All these miracles confirm that true power belongs only to Allah and that prophets are messengers who convey the message of their Lord.
