Sheikh Mohamed Kamal, Secretary of Fatwa at Dar Al-Ifta Egypt, answered a heartfelt question from Walid Sayed, one of the people of determination from Cairo, who asked: “I’m facing many problems and sorrow; is there a prayer that can ease my distress?”

Speaking on the program “Fatawa Al-Nas” aired on Al-Nas TV, Sheikh Kamal said that the Prophet ﷺ taught powerful supplications that open the heart, remove anxiety, and bring tranquility, adding that sincere prayer with presence of heart is one of the surest paths to relief.

Among the most effective prophetic prayers, he cited:

“There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Great. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, and Lord of the Noble Throne.”
He explained that the Prophet ﷺ would say this whenever he felt distress or worry.

He also mentioned the prayer of Prophet Yunus (Jonah) عليه السلام in the belly of the whale:

“There is no god but You, Glory be to You; truly I have been among the wrongdoers.”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “No Muslim calls upon his Lord with this supplication except that Allah relieves his distress.”

Another comprehensive prayer he recommended was:

“O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed, and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You to make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sorrow, and the reliever of my distress.”

Sheikh Kamal further emphasized that frequent repentance (istighfar) is among the greatest keys to relief, citing the Prophet’s saying:

“Whoever constantly seeks forgiveness, Allah will make for him a way out of every worry, relief from every distress, and provide for him from where he does not expect.”

He concluded by urging Muslims to increase their prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ, saying:
“Sending blessings upon the Prophet opens the heart, removes worry, and brings forgiveness — and when you call upon Allah sincerely, relief will come soon, God willing.”
