Don’t Miss the Last Third of the Night: The Prophet’s Authentic Prayer for Acceptance
The last third of the night is one of the best times to pray, as the Prophet ﷺ said Allah descends to the lowest heaven to respond to His servants’ prayers. Here are the authentic supplications from the Prophet.
The last third of the night is a blessed time for drawing closer to Allah through sincere supplication. The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah descends to the lowest heaven during this period, saying: "Who will call upon Me so that I may answer him? Who will ask Me so that I may give him? Who will seek My forgiveness so that I may forgive him?"
Among the supplications taught by the Prophet ﷺ for this time are:
-
"There is no deity except Allah, alone without partner, to Him belongs the dominion and praise, and He is capable of all things… O Allah, forgive me."
-
"O Allah, all praise belongs to You, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth… You are the Truth, so forgive me what I have done in the past and what I delay."
-
"O Allah, Lord of Jibreel, Mikael, and Israfil, Creator of the heavens and the earth, guide me to what is true in matters where people differ."
The time can be calculated by dividing the night—from sunset to dawn—into three equal parts; the last part is the last third of the night.
Recommended supplications include:
-
O Allah, I ask You for mercy that guides my heart and rectifies my affairs.
-
Our Lord, remove the punishment from us, we are believers.
-
O Allah, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the Fire.
-
O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and wealth.
-
O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, grant me health, and provide for me.
-
O Allah, Controller of hearts, turn our hearts toward Your obedience.
-
I seek refuge in Allah from the hardship of calamity, the evil of fate, and the enemies’ gloating.
-
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity, laziness, cowardice, old age, stinginess, the torment of the grave, trials of life and death, and the overpowering of men.
-
O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, so forgive me from Your mercy and have mercy upon me.
-
O Allah, forgive my mistakes, ignorance, excesses, my secrets and declarations, past and future actions, You are the First and the Last, capable of all things.
