The Duha prayer is one of the most virtuous Sunnah prayers that the Prophet ﷺ encouraged Muslims to perform. It offers numerous spiritual and physical benefits, enhances sustenance, and draws the believer closer to Allah.
Benefits of Duha Prayer:
Performing it after sunrise equals the reward of Hajj and Umrah.
Acts as a daily charity, covering each joint of the body.
Serves as praise, glorification, and remembrance of Allah.
Increases Allah’s love for the worshipper.
Brings sustenance and blessings and protects one’s day.
It is a Sunnah the Prophet ﷺ regularly observed, considered a great spiritual gain.
Prayers made after Duha are often answered.
Allah honored it in the Qur’an by swearing by the sun and Duha in Surah Ash-Shams and Ad-Duha.
A means of forgiveness for sins and a source of great reward.
Number of Rak‘ahs and How to Perform:
Duha can be prayed in two, four, six, or eight rak‘ahs. It can be performed two rak‘ahs at a time with tashahhud and salam, or four to eight rak‘ahs with one tashahhud and salam.
Recommended Surahs:
Sunnah to recite Surah Al-Ikhlas and Surah Al-Kafirun for two rak‘ahs.
Hanafi scholars recommend Surah Ash-Shams and Ad-Duha for Duha prayer.
Timing:
Starts after the sun rises about 25 minutes (one to two spear lengths).
Ends shortly before the zenith of the sun (approximately 4 minutes before Dhuhr), with local time adjustments.
