Egypt's Ministry of Awqaf is continuing its program to develop and improve houses of worship, with 18 mosques scheduled to open on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The openings include one newly constructed mosque, 16 mosques that have undergone replacement and renovation, and one mosque that has been maintained and developed.
199 Mosques Opened Since July 2026
The ministry announced that the total number of mosques opened since the beginning of July 2026 has reached 199.
Of these, 137 involved new construction or replacement and renovation, while 62 underwent maintenance and development work.
Since July 2014, a total of 14,878 mosques have undergone replacement, renovation, maintenance or furnishing, with total costs estimated at approximately EGP 28.891 billion.
Mosques Opening in Sohag
Several mosques in Sohag are included in Friday's opening schedule:
- Al-Mo'men Al-Sharif Mosque in Nagaa Al-Sawamea, Tahta.
- Al-Haragawy Family Mosque in Al-Khanansa Al-Gharbiya, Awlad Salama, Al-Mansha'a.
- Mohamed Shehata Sorour Mosque in Shatoura, Tahta.
- Fatima Al-Zahraa Mosque in Nagaa Al-Qaraqra, Awlad Azaz, Sohag, which was newly constructed.
Mosque Opening in Damietta
In Damietta, Al-Rahma Mosque in Awlad Hammam, Damietta Center, has undergone replacement and renovation and is scheduled to reopen for worshippers.
Mosques in Kafr El-Sheikh
The Kafr El-Sheikh opening list includes:
- Al-Gemsi Mosque in Ezbet Hassan Al-Gemsi, Sidi Salem.
- Al-Taqwa Mosque, also known as Al-Salayma Mosque, in Kafr Al-Marazqa, Qalyin.
Both mosques have undergone replacement and renovation.
Mosques in Giza
Two mosques in Giza are also included:
- Al-Ikhlas Mosque in Kafr El-Sheikh Abdel Galil, Atfih.
- Abu Mosour Mosque in Baga Al-Sheikh, Al-Raqqa, Al-Ayyat.
Both underwent replacement and renovation.
Mosques in Beheira and Beni Suef
In Beheira, the openings include Ezbet Safoud and Gowida Mosque in Al-Makhayed, Damanhour, and Tal'at Mosque in Al-Wafaiya, Delengat, following replacement and renovation work.
In Beni Suef, Al-Bahadna Mosque in Malahiya Saeed Gaafar, Beba, has been renovated, while Al-Fath Al-Islami Mosque in Ezbet Ragi, Al-Fant, Al-Fashn, has undergone maintenance and development.
Mosques in Minya, Assiut and Dakahlia
In Minya, Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque in Al-Awqaf village, Safay, Abu Qurqas, has undergone replacement and renovation.
In Assiut, Al-Fazaa Family Mosque in Arab Al-Amaim, Manfalut, has also been renovated.
Dakahlia's list includes Al-Rahman Mosque in Al-Qaytoun, Mit Ghamr, following replacement and renovation.
Mosques in Fayoum and Menoufia
In Fayoum, Saadawy Suleiman Mosque in Ezbet Saadawy Suleiman, Al-Hagara, Senورس, has undergone replacement and renovation.
In Menoufia, Sidi Hamoud Mosque in Hourin, Berket El-Sabaa, has also been renovated.
The ministry said the projects reflect its continued focus on developing and improving mosques across Egypt, with the aim of providing suitable spiritual environments for worshippers and supporting the religious, spiritual and intellectual role of houses of worship.
