Egypt’s Ministry of Awqaf is scheduled to open 19 mosques on Friday, August 21, 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to develop and improve houses of worship across the country.

The openings include 4 newly constructed mosques, 9 mosques that have undergone replacement and renovation, and 6 mosques that have received maintenance and development work.

19 Mosques to Open Across Several Governorates

Total Number of Mosques Opened Since July

With the latest openings, the total number of mosques opened by the Ministry of Awqaf since the beginning of July 2026 will reach 148 mosques.

The figure includes 96 mosques that were newly constructed or replaced and renovated, as well as 52 mosques that underwent maintenance and development.

Since July 2014, a total of approximately 14,827 mosques have undergone replacement, renovation, maintenance or furnishing work, with an estimated total cost of EGP 28.634 billion.

Sohag Governorate

The projects include:

  • Wali Allah Sheikh Hassan Mosque in Damno Village, Sohag Center — replacement and renovation.
  • Al Omran Mosque in Nagaa Omran, Saqalta Center — replacement and renovation.
  • Bir Al-Walidayn and Al-Baqi Mosque in Mansha’at Bardis Village, Al-Balina Center — new construction.
  • Al-Arif Billah Mosque in Al-Ghanaymeya Village, Al-Balina Center — maintenance and development.
  • Al-Rahman Mosque in Nagaa Al-Bandari, Al-Balabish Bahary Village, Dar El Salam Center — maintenance and development.

Assiut Governorate

  • Al-Timsah Mosque in Masara Village, Dairut Center — replacement and renovation.
  • Al-Rahman Al-Rahim Mosque, Abu Tig Center — new construction.
  • Al-Aws Mosque in Al-Ghanayem Bahary, Al-Ghanayem Center — new construction.

Minya Governorate

  • Al-Nour Mosque in Saft Al-Sharqiya Village, Minya Center — replacement and renovation.
  • Al-Rahman Mosque in Al-Hag Qandil Village, Deir Mawas Center — replacement and renovation.

Sharqia Governorate

  • Abu Al-Gheit Mosque in Al-Dahashna Village, Belbeis Center — replacement and renovation.

Aswan Governorate

  • Al-Zanika Al-Qibli Mosque in Nagaa Al-Zanika, Al-Ramady Village, Edfu Center — replacement and renovation.

Fayoum Governorate

  • Ashour Mosque in Al-Nasaria Village, Al-Ajamiyyin, Abshway Center — replacement and renovation.

Beheira Governorate

  • Al-Rahman Mosque in Al-Qalawat Village, Kom Hamada Center — replacement and renovation.

Luxor Governorate

  • Al-Tawwab Al-Rahim Mosque in Hager Al-Dabaa Village, Al-Qurna Center — new construction.

Beni Suef Governorate

The maintenance and development projects include:

  • Al-Shuhada Mosque in Al-Nuwaira Village, Ihnasia Center.
  • Al-Rahman Mosque in Geziret Sanour, east of the Nile, Beni Suef Center.

Gharbia Governorate

  • Naeem Mosque in Kafr Al-Sahel Village, Tanta Center — maintenance and development.
  • Al-Salam Mosque in Ezbet Hamida, Belkim Village, El-Santa Center — maintenance and development.

Egypt’s Plan to Develop Mosques

The latest openings are part of the Ministry of Awqaf’s broader plan to develop, modernize and improve mosques throughout Egypt.

The program includes new construction, replacement and renovation, as well as maintenance and development, with the aim of providing suitable environments for worshippers and supporting the physical, spiritual and intellectual role of mosques.
