Egypt’s Fatwas: White Days Fasting, “Yaseen Prayer,” and Missed Prayers Explained

Egypt’s Dar Al-Iftaa has released a set of fatwas addressing common religious questions that many Muslims ponder, shedding light on fasting, prayer, and spiritual intentions.

🔹 Forgetting to Fast the White Days
The authority stated that whoever misses fasting the three White Days (13th, 14th, and 15th of each Hijri month) may fast any other three days as voluntary worship.
Fasting these days is Sunnah, not obligatory, so there is no sin in missing them. Yet, maintaining this practice is highly recommended due to its great reward, as Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised Abu Hurairah to fast three days of each month.

🔹 Reading “Adiyat Yaseen” for Revenge
Dar Al-Iftaa warned against reciting “Adiyat Yaseen” — a non-authentic practice — with the intention of harming others.
Dr. Ali Gomaa, a member of the Council of Senior Scholars, explained that the Qur’an was revealed for mercy and guidance, not as a weapon for vengeance.
He and Sheikh Mohamed Wasam emphasized that Surat Yaseen should only be read for good purposes, such as easing hardship or seeking justice peacefully, not for destruction or harm.

🔹 Does Regular Prayer Replace Missed Ones?
Dar Al-Iftaa clarified that maintaining daily prayers does not absolve one from making up missed prayers.
If a person forgets or sleeps through a prayer, they must perform it as soon as they remember. However, if they deliberately neglected prayer for years, they should gradually make them up while continuing current prayers.
Citing the Prophet ﷺ’s hadith: “Whoever forgets a prayer or sleeps through it, let him pray it when he remembers.”

The fatwas concluded by urging Muslims to worship sincerely and consistently, trusting in God’s mercy and forgiveness.
