The Ministry of Awqaf published the text of the Friday sermon for 25 Muharram 1448 AH - July 10, 2026, titled: “Kindness: Building People and Developing Nations.” The sermon aims to raise awareness of the value of kindness and gentleness as a way to win hearts and build a balanced individual and a strong society.

The ministry explained that the second sermon focuses on the message that harshness is not a method of upbringing, and that dealing with mercy and kindness is the correct approach to reforming souls and raising children.

Kindness in Islam and Its Role in Building People

Kindness Is the Foundation of a Balanced Personality

The Friday sermon explained that kindness is among the greatest moral values encouraged by Islam. It is a fundamental element in building a balanced personality capable of dealing wisely with others.

A person who adopts kindness as a way of life avoids hatred and resentment and becomes characterized by wisdom and good manners, because kindness beautifies character and strengthens relationships.

The sermon cited the saying of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ:

“Whoever is given his share of gentleness has been given his share of the goodness of this world and the Hereafter.”

Kindness as a Path to a Strong Society

Gentleness Brings Hearts Together and Develops Nations

The Ministry of Awqaf emphasized that societies are not built through harshness and violence, but through mercy, cooperation, and respectful interactions among people.

Kindness encourages the strong to show mercy toward the weak and the elderly to care for the young. It spreads love and compassion among people, leading to a united society and a stronger nation.

The sermon warned against harshness, explaining that it causes relationships to break down and conflicts to spread, while kindness helps reconcile differences and strengthen human connections.

The Prophet’s ﷺ Kindness as a Model of Interaction

Mercy as a Method of Guidance and Education

The sermon highlighted that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was the greatest example of kindness and mercy. His gentleness was not weakness; rather, it was a form of wisdom and compassion in dealing with all people.

The sermon mentioned the Prophet’s ﷺ response to the Bedouin who urinated in the mosque, as he treated him with kindness and education instead of harshness and rebuke.

It also referred to his approach with the young man who asked permission to commit adultery, where the Prophet ﷺ spoke with him with mercy and wisdom until his heart changed and he accepted the truth.

Kindness Extends to All Creatures

Mercy Toward Creation Is a Characteristic of the Believer

The sermon explained that kindness is not limited to human interactions but extends to all creatures. A believer views the universe with compassion and goodwill.

It emphasized that a heart filled with kindness becomes more capable of spreading goodness, removing cruelty, and building a life based on cooperation and mercy.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever is deprived of kindness is deprived of goodness.”

The Second Sermon: Harshness Is Not a Method of Education

Education Through Mercy Builds Strong Generations

The Ministry of Awqaf confirmed in the second sermon that proper upbringing is based on love and mercy, and that excessive harshness toward children can negatively affect their personalities.

It explained that extreme severity creates fear and weakness in children’s hearts, while kindness helps build a confident and balanced personality.

Luqman’s Advice as a Model of Gentle Parenting

A Compassionate Call Opens Hearts

The sermon referred to Luqman’s advice to his son, where he began his guidance with Allah’s words:

﴿O my dear son﴾

This expression carries meanings of love and mercy and highlights the importance of using gentle methods when advising children.

The sermon also mentioned the Prophet’s ﷺ treatment of children and his grandchildren Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, may Allah be pleased with them, as he filled their lives with love, care, and compassion.

The Role of Parents in Raising Children with Kindness

Listening and Mercy Build Trust

The sermon called on parents to make their homes places of security and affection and to listen to their children and understand their problems instead of using harshness.

It emphasized that children need kind words and a caring hand that help them grow in a healthy psychological environment, and that raising children with mercy creates a more stable future.

The sermon concluded by encouraging people to follow the Prophet’s ﷺ example of mercy and kindness, based on his saying:

“Those who show mercy will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Show mercy to those on earth, and the One above the heavens will show mercy to you.”
