In the journey between mistakes and returning to Allah, repentance remains an open door. A common question arises: should repentance prayer be performed daily or after every sin?

What is Repentance Prayer?

Repentance prayer consists of two rak‘ahs performed after committing a sin. A person makes ablution, prays with humility, and sincerely seeks forgiveness from Allah.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“No one commits a sin, then purifies himself, prays, and seeks forgiveness, except that Allah forgives him.”

Is It Required After Every Sin?
Scholars explain that repentance prayer is not obligatory but highly recommended. It is encouraged to perform it whenever a person sins, regardless of repetition.

No matter how often mistakes occur, returning to Allah is always accepted.

Conditions of Repentance
For repentance to be valid, it must include:

  • Sincere regret
  • Firm intention not to return
  • Immediate cessation of the sin
  • Restoring others’ rights if involved

Best Time for Repentance
The best time is immediately after committing a sin, especially while one is healthy and able to perform good deeds.

What If the Sin Repeats?
Repeating a sin does not close the door of repentance. A believer should continue seeking forgiveness and striving for improvement, as the best people are those who repent frequently.

Good deeds like charity and remembrance help erase sins and purify the soul.

A Door Always Open
Repentance is not a one-time act, but a continuous return. Every sincere prayer is a step toward mercy, and every honest repentance is a light that dispels darkness.
