Muslims frequently seek guidance on religious rulings related to daily worship, vows, voluntary prayers, and Umrah.

Among the questions that often arise are whether two vows can be fulfilled through one sacrifice, whether Duha prayer can be performed shortly before noon, and whether one Umrah can be performed on behalf of both a father and a brother.

Can Two Vows Be Combined in One Sacrifice?

Sheikh Ahmed Wassam, a Fatwa Secretary, explained that the ruling on combining two vows in one sacrifice depends on the wording of each vow and the condition attached to it.

If a person vows to slaughter an animal when a pregnancy occurs and the pregnancy takes place, the vow must be fulfilled according to its wording.

However, if the vow is conditional upon the pregnancy continuing until a safe delivery and that condition is not fulfilled, the vow does not become binding under that condition.

Are Two Vows Considered Separate?

If a person makes another vow separately and its condition is subsequently fulfilled, each vow is treated as an independent commitment when the wording of each vow establishes a separate obligation.

Therefore, the basic principle is that each vow should be fulfilled when its specific condition is met rather than automatically treating two separate vows as one.

The wording of the vow and the condition attached to it are therefore central to determining the applicable ruling.

Can Duha Prayer Be Performed Shortly Before Noon?

Duha prayer is a voluntary prayer that Muslims perform during the morning, and many questions concern its latest permissible time, particularly when noon is approaching.

Dr. Mahmoud Shalaby, a Fatwa Secretary, explained that the time for Duha prayer begins approximately one-third of an hour after sunrise and continues until the period immediately preceding noon prayer.

How Many Rakahs Are There in Duha Prayer?

The minimum number of Duha prayer units is two. Scholarly views have mentioned eight as a maximum, while another reported view mentions twelve units.

According to the ruling presented, Duha prayer may be performed half an hour or a quarter of an hour before noon.

However, intentionally performing it only a few minutes before the noon prayer time is not valid under the cited ruling because that period falls within a time in which prayer is disliked.

For this reason, anyone wishing to perform Duha prayer should avoid delaying it until the final moments before noon.

Can One Umrah Be Performed for Both a Father and Brother?

Dr. Mohamed Abdel Samie, a Fatwa Secretary, explained that there is an important distinction between dedicating the reward of an Umrah and performing Umrah on behalf of another person.

After performing Umrah, a Muslim may dedicate its reward to more than one person. Therefore, the reward of one completed Umrah may be dedicated to both a father and a brother.

Can One Umrah Be Performed on Behalf of Two People?

Performing the same Umrah itself on behalf of two different people at the same time is not valid according to the ruling presented.

If a Muslim wishes to perform Umrah on behalf of a father and then a brother, a separate Umrah should be performed for each person.

The person first completes the Umrah on behalf of the first individual. After completing its rituals, the person then returns to the designated boundary, enters ihram again, and performs another Umrah on behalf of the second individual.

The Difference Between Dedicating Reward and Performing Umrah for Someone Else

The key distinction is that dedicating the reward means performing the act of worship oneself and then dedicating its reward to another person.

By contrast, performing Umrah on behalf of someone else means that the Umrah itself is performed with the intention of acting as that person's representative.

This distinction explains why the rulings differ between the two situations.

Can two vows be fulfilled through one sacrifice?
Each vow is generally treated separately when it has its own wording and condition, and it should be fulfilled when its specific condition is met.

When does Duha prayer begin?
It begins approximately one-third of an hour after sunrise and continues until shortly before noon prayer.

Can Duha prayer be performed fifteen minutes before noon?
According to the cited ruling, it may be performed fifteen or thirty minutes before noon.

Can one Umrah be performed on behalf of both a father and brother?
One Umrah cannot be performed on behalf of two people simultaneously. A separate Umrah is required for each person.

Can the reward of one Umrah be dedicated to both a father and brother?
Yes. After completing the Umrah, its reward may be dedicated to more than one person.
