Sufi communities in Old Cairo have begun their preparations for the 2025 Mawlid of Lady Nafisa, drawing thousands of visitors who gather around her historic mosque to experience one of the most spiritually vibrant celebrations of the year. The Sawiyya-Khalwatiyya order confirmed that the Mawlid commenced on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, while Wednesday, December 3, 2025, has been set as the grand closing night—an evening characterized by illuminated streets, devotional chanting, and collective remembrance.
Images shared by the Jazuliyya order from their gathering on December 1, 2025, showed followers engaging in spiritual songs and communal rituals, reflecting the deeply rooted traditions associated with the Mawlid. Food and drinks are distributed among visitors as an expression of generosity and celebration.
Who is Lady Nafisa?
Lady Nafisa, revered by many, descends from the noble lineage of the Prophet’s family. She is the daughter of Al-Hasan Al-Anwar, a descendant of Al-Hasan ibn Ali and Fatimah Al-Zahra. Born in Mecca in 145 AH, she grew up in Medina, memorized the Qur’an at a young age, and became known for her piety, scholarship, and devotion. She married Ishaq Al-Mu’taman, a descendant of Ja’far Al-Sadiq, and performed the pilgrimage thirty times.
After settling in Egypt, she dedicated her life to teaching and guiding people until her passing in 208 AH. Her mausoleum remains one of Cairo’s most cherished spiritual landmarks.

The closing night of the Mawlid is celebrated with an array of Sufi rituals—circles of remembrance, spiritual chanting, devotional supplications, and beautifully arranged recitations. The surrounding streets shine with decorative lights, and Sufi lodges prepare special chants and performances.
