Istikhara prayer is one of the greatest acts of worship that a المسلم turns to when facing uncertainty between choices, seeking guidance and clarity from Allah.

When a person is unsure about a decision, they perform two rak’ahs with the intention of Istikhara, reciting Al-Fatiha and Surah Al-Kafirun in the first rak’ah, and Al-Fatiha and Surah Al-Ikhlas in the second, followed by the supplication of Istikhara.

It is recommended to perform this prayer outside the disliked times, with the best time being the last third of the night before Fajr, when supplications are most likely to be accepted.

However, it can be performed at any permissible time during the day, avoiding prohibited times such as after Asr until Maghrib, after Fajr until sunrise, and shortly before Dhuhr. If necessary, it can still be performed during these times.

The process begins with ablution, followed by intention, then performing two rak’ahs, praising Allah, sending blessings upon the Prophet, and reciting the Istikhara supplication. When reaching the phrase “O Allah, if You know that this matter,” the person should mention their specific need.

There is no requirement to see a dream afterward. Instead, guidance often comes through a feeling of ease or discomfort. A person may feel inclined toward the matter and proceed, or feel reluctant and avoid it.

If no clear feeling appears, it is recommended to repeat the Istikhara and consult knowledgeable and experienced people before making a decision.

Istikhara remains a powerful act of surrender, where a believer entrusts their affairs to Allah, confident that His choice is always best.
