Egyptian football fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League, with growing attention on the refereeing team assigned to the match.

Spanish Referee Close to Leading the Derby

Media presenter Mohamed Said revealed that Spanish referee Javier Alberola Rojas is the leading candidate to officiate the derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek in the fifth round of the championship stage.

He stated on Facebook that the referee will likely take charge of the match on Friday at Cairo International Stadium.

Controversial Refereeing Record

Said noted that Rojas has already officiated one Al Ahly match this season against Pyramids, which ended in a 2–0 defeat for Al Ahly.

He also recently refereed the Copa del Rey final between Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad, which was decided by penalty shootout in favor of the Basque side.

The derby will take place on Friday at 8:00 PM Cairo time at Cairo International Stadium in the fifth round of the championship phase.
