Egypt’s Ministry of Endowments has clarified the truth about Mohamed El-Gazy’s alleged affiliation with the ministry, following widespread controversy on social media over comments attributed to him on his personal account.

The comments, directed at several women, sparked criticism among social media users and raised questions about whether El-Gazy was officially affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments, particularly because he appeared wearing traditional Al-Azhar attire.

Ministry of Endowments Orders Urgent Investigation

The Ministry of Endowments followed the posts and discussions circulating across social media platforms and ordered an urgent investigation into the matter.

Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Endowments, directed officials to verify Mohamed El-Gazy’s relationship with the ministry and determine whether he was affiliated with the ministry or any of its Islamic Culture Centers.

Is Mohamed El-Gazy Affiliated With the Ministry of Endowments?

The investigation concluded that Mohamed El-Gazy is not currently affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments in any capacity.

The ministry also clarified that he had been dismissed from studying at one of its Islamic Culture Centers, meaning that he does not currently hold any official affiliation with the ministry.

Mohamed El-Gazy Has Been Banned From Preaching

Officials from the Ministry of Endowments also stated that Mohamed El-Gazy has been banned from preaching for more than a year.

They stressed that he is not an employee of the ministry and is not one of its officially recognized imams or preachers.

The ministry further explained that wearing traditional Al-Azhar clothing does not necessarily mean that a person works for the Ministry of Endowments or officially represents it.

Why Did Mohamed El-Gazy Spark Controversy?

The controversy began after comments attributed to Mohamed El-Gazy were circulated on social media.

Some of the comments contained offensive expressions that drew strong criticism from users and prompted calls to clarify his professional and institutional status.

The Ministry of Endowments therefore sought to clarify that any personal behavior attributed to him should not be associated with the ministry, since he does not currently belong to it.

Ministry Clarifies the Significance of Al-Azhar Attire

The Ministry of Endowments emphasized that traditional Al-Azhar attire carries a special significance in Egyptian society and is commonly associated with religious knowledge, good conduct and serving as a role model.

The ministry said it considers inappropriate behavior by anyone appearing in such attire a serious matter, while stressing that the individual involved in the controversy does not currently represent or belong to the Ministry of Endowments.

New Instructions for Endowments Directorates

The ministry renewed its instructions to affiliated directorates not to rely on individuals who lack the necessary ethical and academic qualifications for religious work.

It also stressed the importance of complying with the regulations governing preaching and religious activities to maintain public trust and the proper image of religious institutions.

Ministry Urges Verification Before Sharing Information

The Ministry of Endowments urged individuals and institutions to verify information before publishing or sharing it on social media.

It particularly emphasized the importance of checking a person’s official status and institutional affiliation before attributing statements or actions to government bodies.
