Questions have increased regarding delaying prayer due to study or work commitments, which was addressed by Sheikh Oweida Othman, Fatwa Advisor at Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta.

Basic ruling on prayer timing
He emphasized that prayer must be performed on time, citing the verse:
“Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.”

Exceptional cases
He explained that in cases such as extended lectures or unavoidable work obligations, it is permissible to combine prayers, such as Dhuhr with Asr or Maghrib with Isha, as a delayed combination.

Conditions for combining prayers
He clarified that this concession was practiced by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to remove hardship, but it should not become a regular habit.

Prayer is never waived
He stressed that prayer is never dropped under any circumstance and must be observed either on time or combined when necessary.

Importance of prayer commitment
He concluded that maintaining prayer positively impacts a person’s life in both study and work, encouraging youth to stay committed to their religious duties.
