When worries and trials accumulate, turning to prescribed supplications can help alleviate distress and bring peace of mind. The Egyptian Dar Al-Ifta advises frequent recitation of "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah".
Some of the recommended supplications for relief from distress include:
-
"O Allah, Reliever of distress, Remover of grief, Responder to the calls of the needy, Most Merciful in this world and the Hereafter, I ask You to have mercy on me with mercy that suffices me over all else."
-
"O Allah, do not deprive me of Your vast mercy, abundant blessings, encompassing wellness, and generous favors. Do not withhold Your gifts due to my shortcomings, nor punish me for my misdeeds, and do not turn Your noble face away from me in Your mercy, O Most Merciful."
-
"I seek refuge in You from worry and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, and from the burden of debt and oppression of men."
-
"O Allah, expand my chest, ease my affairs, and untie the knot from my tongue so they may understand my speech."
-
"Keep away from me evil companions, protect me from sins, forgive my sins, purify my heart, and have mercy on me, O Most Merciful."
-
"O Allah, rectify my religion, which is the protection of my affairs, rectify my worldly life, and my Hereafter, and make life a source of good and death a relief from harm."
-
"O Lord, suffice me with what concerns me and with what I do not care for, increase me in piety, forgive me, guide me to goodness wherever I go, and make relief and exit from every worry and distress."
-
"Do not leave me to anyone, nor make me dependent on anyone, enrich me from all others, O One, the Only, the Eternal, without partner or child, guide me from misguidance to guidance, and save me from all distress and hardship."
It is also recommended to recite:
"There is no deity but Allah, the Mighty, the Forbearing; there is no deity but Allah, Lord of the Great Throne; there is no deity but Allah, Lord of the heavens and the Noble Throne; there is no deity but Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous."
