“WE HAVE NOT SENT DOWN THE QUR’AN TO CAUSE YOU DISTRESS” – Egypt’s Ministry of Endowments Announces Friday Sermon Topic
Egypt’s Ministry of Endowments announced that the upcoming Friday sermon will focus on the verse “We have not sent down the Qur’an to cause you distress,” emphasizing Islam’s message of mercy and warning against extremist thought. The second sermon will discuss “Proper Conduct with Tourists.”
The Egyptian Ministry of Endowments has announced the topic of the upcoming Friday sermon, scheduled for October 31, 2025 (9 Jumada al-Awwal 1447 AH), under the title “We Have Not Sent Down the Qur’an to Cause You Distress.” The ministry stated that the sermon aims to promote awareness of the dangers of extremism and its destructive impact on societies, emphasizing that Islam is a religion of mercy, moderation, and ease—not hardship or excess.
The second sermon will address the theme “Proper Conduct with Tourists,” highlighting the importance of reflecting Islamic values through respectful behavior and hospitality, which represent Egypt’s true image of kindness and moral strength.
In another statement, the Ministry of Endowments reminded citizens that honoring and respecting elders is a noble trait of true believers, citing the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ saying: “He is not one of us who does not respect our elders and show mercy to our young.” The ministry stressed that gentleness and humility are signs of strength and integrity, not weakness.
It further emphasized that insulting elders is a degradation of one’s own character, noting that respect forms the foundation of healthy human relations and social harmony. The ministry also urged parents and educators to instill these values in younger generations to preserve Egypt’s long-standing culture of respect and compassion.
Finally, the ministry affirmed that Islam is not limited to worship alone but encompasses a comprehensive moral system, with the Prophet ﷺ serving as the ultimate example of kindness and humility in dealing with both young and old alike.
