Many Muslims wonder about Al-Buraq in the journey of Isra and Mi’raj, the extraordinary creature chosen by Allah to carry Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on a night that transcended time and space.
According to Dar Al-Ifta, Al-Buraq symbolizes the bridge between the earthly and the heavenly realms, perfectly suited for a journey that combined physical travel with spiritual ascension.
Former Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa explained that the journey from Makkah to Al-Aqsa Mosque—nearly 2,000 kilometers—took less than forty seconds, at a speed beyond human comprehension.
Upon reaching Al-Aqsa, the Prophet ﷺ tied Al-Buraq at the western wall and led the prophets in prayer, before ascending through the heavens, where the five daily prayers were ordained.
Dar Al-Ifta confirmed that the Night of Isra and Mi’raj in 2026 begins at sunset on Thursday, January 15, and ends at dawn on Friday, January 16.
