A recent study has shed light on the effect of peanut butter on blood sugar levels, revealing that it produces a mild and moderate response compared to high-sugar foods, making it a suitable option for sustained energy.

The findings show that peanut butter consists of approximately 50% fat, 24% protein, and 19% carbohydrates, with fat being the dominant nutrient. A single tablespoon contains only about 3–4 grams of carbohydrates, and its glycemic index is low (around 14), meaning it does not cause sharp spikes in blood sugar like sugary snacks or refined baked goods.

Researchers explained that this balanced nutritional composition—combining fats, protein, and fiber—slows digestion and reduces the speed at which glucose enters the bloodstream. As a result, it provides gradual energy rather than a sudden spike followed by a crash.

However, while peanut butter supports stable energy levels over time, it is not ideal for treating sudden drops in blood sugar, which require quickly absorbed carbohydrates.
