UK supermarket chain Tesco has urgently withdrawn its grape and berry fruit mix from shelves due to concerns over possible salmonella contamination, a bacterium known to cause serious food poisoning.
Authorities have placed a strict “do not eat” warning on the affected packs, advising customers to return the product to any store branch for a full refund, even without proof of purchase.
According to reports published by Daily Mail, the impacted batches carry use-by dates of February 16 and 17, 2026, and are sold in 230-gram packs. Officials have expressed concern that some consumers may have already eaten the product before the alert was issued.
Salmonella infection can trigger symptoms such as vomiting, severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and fever within hours of consuming contaminated food. While most individuals recover without medical treatment, the infection can be dangerous — and in rare cases fatal — particularly for young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
The Food Standards Agency stated: “If you have purchased any of the affected products, do not consume them. Instead, return them to any store for a full refund.”
Health officials also recommend that anyone experiencing symptoms should stay away from work, school, or childcare settings for at least 48 hours after symptoms have fully resolved to prevent spreading the infection.
This recall follows other recent food safety withdrawals in the UK market linked to health risks or undeclared ingredients that could pose threats to consumers with allergies.
