The Al-Azhar Global Fatwa Center issued a warning regarding the burning of rice straw after harvest, emphasizing that it constitutes land corruption and poses risks to both human health and the environment.
The center explained that the main purpose of humanity is to cultivate and preserve the earth, citing Quranic verses: {He created you from the earth and settled you in it} and {Do not corrupt the earth after it has been set right}.
Al-Azhar highlighted that burning rice straw emits thick smoke containing harmful gases, directly affecting human health, especially children, the elderly, and patients, while polluting the air and damaging the environment.
The center stressed that this act violates Islamic teachings that encourage cleanliness and health preservation and wastes valuable agricultural resources that could be converted into fodder, fertilizers, and sustainable bioenergy.
Farmers were urged to cooperate with relevant authorities to utilize rice straw in eco-friendly ways that protect air, water, and soil, and promote community health, in line with the Quranic guidance: {And do good as Allah has done good to you; and do not seek corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like corrupters}.
