Evening Remembrances: “I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, Islam as my religion, and Muhammad as my Prophet”

Evening remembrances are daily Sunnah practices encouraged in Islam, including Ayat al-Kursi, Surahs Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas, along with supplications for protection, blessings, forgiveness, and tranquility before sleep.

Islam emphasizes frequent remembrance of Allah at all times. Allah says: “O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance” [Al-Ahzab: 41]. Among the recommended remembrances are those of morning and evening: ﴿and glorify Him morning and evening﴾ [Al-Ahzab: 42].

Most important evening remembrances:

Reciting Ayat al-Kursi: {Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence…} [Al-Baqarah: 255]

Reciting the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah: {The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so have the believers…} [Al-Baqarah: 285-286]

Reciting Surahs Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas three times each.

Saying: "We have entered the evening and Allah’s is all dominion, all praise is due to Allah…".

Saying: "I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, Islam as my religion, and Muhammad as my Prophet" three times.

Testimony: "O Allah, I bear witness, and the bearers of Your Throne, Your angels, and all of Your creation bear witness, that You are Allah, none has the right to be worshiped except You alone without partner, and that Muhammad is Your servant and messenger" four times.

Supplications for protection:

"Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. In Him I place my trust, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne" seven times.

"In the name of Allah, nothing in the heavens or earth harms with His name, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing" three times.

"O Allah, by Your leave we have entered the evening and by Your leave we have entered the morning, by Your leave we live and die, and to You is our return."

Praise and seeking forgiveness:

"Glory and praise be to Allah, as numerous as His creation, as pleasing as His satisfaction, as heavy as His Throne, and as enduring as His words" three times.

"I seek forgiveness from Allah, the All-Mighty, the Ever-Living, and I repent to Him" three times.

Asking for well-being and safety:

"O Allah, grant me well-being in my body, my hearing, and my sight; there is no deity but You" three times.

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief, poverty, and the punishment of the grave" three times.

"O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly life, my family, and my wealth. Cover my faults, protect me from all harm."

Protection from all evils:

"O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek help. Rectify all my affairs and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye" three times.

"I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created" three times.

Sending blessings on the Prophet ﷺ: ten times.

Seeking refuge from anxiety, sorrow, incapacity, laziness, cowardice, miserliness, overwhelming debt, and oppression: three times.

Comprehensive supplication: "O Allah, You are my Lord, none has the right to be worshiped but You. I place my trust in You, and You are the Lord of the Mighty Throne. What Allah wills happens, and what He does not will does not happen. There is no power or strength except through Allah, the Exalted, the Great. I know that Allah is capable of everything and that He encompasses all things with knowledge."

These evening remembrances help a believer protect their soul, wealth, and body, seek blessings and forgiveness, and enter the night with peace and tranquility, prepared for Fajr prayer and nightly devotion.
