The Egyptian Dar Al-Ifta clarified that a person who neglects prayer out of laziness or negligence is considered a sinful Muslim. They acknowledge that prayer is obligatory but repeatedly delay or skip it, such as praying one day and leaving several others. While this does not nullify their faith, it places them in a state of disobedience and requires proper guidance to avoid permanent neglect of prayer.
Dar Al-Ifta emphasized that dealing with someone who abandons prayer should be done with gentleness and patience, avoiding harsh words or threats, as such methods may push the person further away. The best approach is using kind words, good counsel, accompanying them to the mosque, or inviting them to pray together while explaining the virtues of prayer and its impact on both spiritual and worldly life.
The institution also highlighted the importance of persistence and repeated guidance, noting that some individuals may need several reminders before recognizing the importance of prayer. Praying for their guidance is also one of the most effective means to keep them on the path of obedience. Gentleness, patience, and consistent encouragement remain the most suitable way to bring a negligent believer closer to God, motivate them to perform prayer regularly, earn divine reward, and strengthen their spiritual connection.
