Questions often arise regarding ritual purity for women using modern medical methods such as contraceptive patches, and whether they affect the validity of ghusl (ritual bath).

A religious official clarified that the ruling depends on the nature of the patch itself and the medical necessity behind its use. In some cases, a woman may be medically required not to remove it before its scheduled time to avoid harm or reduce its effectiveness.

It was explained that if the patch allows water to reach the skin, it does not affect the validity of ghusl, and purification is completed normally without issue.

However, if the patch prevents water from reaching the skin, it is treated like a medical bandage. In this case, it is permissible to wipe over it while washing the rest of the body, and the ghusl remains valid.

If wiping directly over the patch could damage it or affect its function, a protective covering may be placed over it, and wiping is done over that layer while completing the rest of the bath.

It was also noted that some types of patches can be easily removed without harm. In such cases, they should be removed during purification and reapplied afterward, with the guiding principle being medical necessity and prevention of harm.
